Virgo Belizaire
Pastor, Baton Rouge Seventh-day Adventist Church
Pastor Virgo Belizaire assumed the role of pastor at the Baton Rouge Seventh-day Adventist Church on August 19, 2023. Hailing from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, he migrated to the United States, specifically to New York City, during his childhood. As a second-generation Seventh-day Adventist, Pastor Virgo was raised in a Christian household, instilling in him an early understanding of the power of prayer and fostering a steadfast faith in the Lord.
In his formative years, Virgo faced a significant test of his faith when he tragically lost his mother at the tender age of thirteen, followed shortly by the passing of his father, rendering him an orphan. Despite these hardships, he remained resilient by holding onto the principles instilled by his parents. Guided by the wisdom of Proverbs 22:6, which states “train a child in the way he will go and when he is old he will not depart from it”.
Beyond his spiritual journey, Virgo developed a passion for sports, both as a participant and spectator. During his adolescence, he harbored dreams of pursuing a career in professional basketball or soccer, and later contemplated a path in mathematics. However, these aspirations evolved, leading him on a different trajectory.
Within his local church community, Virgo dedicated himself to various roles, including deaconship, Sabbath School Teacher, Youth Leadership, Master Guide Instructor, Treasury Responsibilities, Bible Worker, and Elder duties. Through these ministries, he felt a divine calling to dedicate his life to God's service. This calling prompted him to pursue pastoral training at Atlantic Union College and Andrews Theological Seminary, ultimately culminating in his ordination as a minister within the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Now in his fifteenth year as a pastoral leader, Elder Belizaire characterizes his life and ministry as a testament to his unwavering faith—a journey akin to "Walking on Water," and accomplishing the "Impossible" through his steadfast belief in God's guidance.
Elder Belizaire's passion for education is evident in his twelve-year tenure as an educator across public, private, and Adventist schools in New York City and New Orleans. This background solidified his dedication to assisting, counseling, and teaching others.
One of the divine gifts bestowed upon Elder Belizaire is his mastery of languages. He is proficient in English, French, and Creole, and possesses the ability to read Spanish. His fascination with biblical languages and his avid interest in diverse cultures and world religions underscore his commitment to learning and growth. Pastor Belizaire has appeared as a guest host on the 3ABN French TV series titled "Truths for Eternity" ("Des Vérités pour l'Éternité"), focusing on the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of Adventism.
For the past eight years, Virgo has cherished his role as a husband to his beloved Dr. Marjorie Célestin, who currently serves as the Health Ministries/Health Evangelism Director for the Arkansas-Louisiana Conference. Additionally, he is a dedicated father to three children: two sons, André Emmanuel and Alain Elie, and a daughter, Amélie Elise. Balancing these roles, he aspires to maintain his identity as a God-fearing pastor, a loving husband and father, and a fervent soul winner for the Kingdom of God.
In humble recognition of the responsibilities ahead, Pastor Belizaire earnestly seeks your prayers as he leads the Baton Rouge Church community under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
